The UGA Cannes Lions Advertising Study Abroad Program offers two academic courses centered on the famed Cannes Lions Advertising Festival, which takes place in the French coastal city of Cannes each June.
Through this program, students have an opportunity to expand their global perspective and participate in an international advertising and media event. The festival is the most important festival in the world for those interested in the best advertising, public relations, digital and other forms of marketing communications. The festival attracts executives and practitioners from around the world. For one week each June, the Lions festival at Cannes is home to the major players in the international advertising and marketing communication community.
Located on the Mediterranean in southern France, Cannes is a beautiful seaside resort community not far from Nice, Monte Carlo, and St. Tropez.
Who should apply
The UGA Cannes Lions Study Abroad Program is open to university students in the United States who are majoring, minoring or simply interested in advertising, public relations, digital and other forms or marketing communication.
Students in the UGA program can earn six hours of upper-level academic credit in advertising and mass communication courses offered by the University of Georgia. Courses are taught by faculty members in UGA’s highly-ranked Grady College of Journalism & Mass Communication.
During the three-week program, students get to see first-hand the world’s best advertising and marketing campaigns. They also get to meet the people who created those campaigns. During the week-long festival students attend seminars, workshops, and master classes taught by leaders in the field such as Sir John Hegarty, Jeff Goodby and Maurice Levy. Cannes Lions provides a tremendous professional boost to those who either want to—or are considering—working in this exciting field.
UGA’s Study Abroad Program
The program based at the University of Georgia has the largest presence of any U.S. university built around the festival. Summer 2014 marks the fifth year students in the UGA program have attended Cannes Lions. Professors in the Departments of Advertising & Public Relations and Telecommunication help students in the program navigate the festival by preparing them beforehand and helping them pull together what the students have learned during the three-week program.
